This will be the first Welsh Submission Challenge nogi grappling event. Run by the team behind the hugely successful Welsh Open gi and nogi competitions, this event aims to encourage fast paced attacking grappling matches.

IMPORTANT: This event is taking place during a strength expo, you MUST print out your e-ticket to gain entry to the event. For the invitational division this will be arranged for you and you may also bring one coach with you.

WELSH SUBMISSION INVITATIONAL

This will be an 8 man openweight knockout tournament. ALL submissions will be legal and fights will be 10mins in duration. Points will be as per the Welsh Submission Challenge rules below.

Prize money for the winner will be £600 and competitors will also be able to claim travel expenses (up to a reasonable amount, to be confirmed before acceptance into the competition).

This tournament will begin at 2pm.

WELSH SUBMISSION CHALLENGE

This is an open entry submission grappling tournament using the repercharge system (minimum of 2 fights for every competitor). There will be novice (under 2 years grappling experience) and advanced (over 2 years grappling experience) divisions. Please note that ANY grappling training counts; BJJ, judo, wrestling, sambo, catch etc...

RULES

Fight duration will be 5mins.

WEIGHT CATEGORIES;

<55.5kg, <61.5kg, <67.5kg, <73.5kg, <79.5kg, <85.5kg, <91.5kg, <97.5kg, 97.5kg+

Please note that weight divisions may be merged if their are low numbers in them.

ILLEGAL SUBMISSIONS;

NOVICE: heel-hooks, neck-cranks/spine-locks, knee-bars, toe-holds, any other twisting leg-lock.

ADVANCED: heel-hooks, neck-cranks/spine-locks.

POINTS;

Any takedown, sweep, guard-pass, knee-on-belly, full-mount or back-control: 1 point (must be held for 3 seconds)

Any submission attempt: 3 points (referee must judge it to be a significant attempt)

Stalling: first time = warning, then 2 points to opponent each time. Stalling will be punished harshly and after a warning a competitor must immediately try to attack or will start to give away points.

FOULS;

- striking

- biting, gouging, pinching the skin, grabbing genitals or hair

- putting fingers into any orifice

- twisting fingers or toes, grabbing individual fingers or toes

- grabbing any clothing

- escaping the fight area

- refusing to engage

- slamming from a grounded position or to escape a submission

Fouls will incur a penalty of 2 points to the opponent on first ocassion and DQ on the second.
